"Belarus is among those countries that are fulfilling the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol and other international documents. The amount of emissions into the atmosphere is not increasing, but decreasing," the minister noted. According to him, Belarus undertakes to ensure that by 2030, greenhouse gas emissions will be no higher than 75% of the 1990 level.
Andrei Kоvkhuto stated that the Belarusian delegation supports the main directions of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, including preventing the average global temperature from rising by more than 2 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-industrial period. "In addition, economic mechanisms are envisaged to improve the situation with harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Countries that join this agreement will be able to receive assistance if necessary," Andrei Kоvkhuto explained.
The minister noted that alternative energy sources are actively developing in Belarus, and wind, water, and solar energy are widely used.
