Belarusbank keeps all data on USSR Savings Bank deposits made before the early 1990s and has calculations for them, said Nadezhda Ermakova, Chairperson of the Board of OJSC "ASB Belarusbank", in an interview with a BELTA correspondent. She took part in the unified information day "Belarus - a Social State: Key Development Results in 2006-2010" in Vitebsk. "The issue of compensating Soviet deposits is on the agenda," said Nadezhda Ermakova. According to her, calculations for full compensation were even carried out several years ago, but the global financial crisis did not allow these plans to be implemented. At the same time, the head of Belarusbank does not rule out that the possibility of full compensation of deposits will be realised in the next five-year period. "It is wrong to compensate insignificant amounts. Everything will be done honestly, but it requires a lot of money. I think steps will be taken in the next five-year period if we do not start working worse," she added. After the collapse of the USSR, in accordance with the Agreement on the principles and mechanisms for servicing the domestic debt of the former USSR, signed on March 13, 1992, the debt to the population on USSR Savings Bank deposits, on issued and unredeemed state loans of the 1982 and 1990 issues, as well as the amounts of citizens' contributions under long-term insurance contracts, were оформлены by each country as domestic state debt, the servicing of which falls within the competence of the Ministry of Finance of the respective state.
