Passing rains have replenished soil moisture content, causing over-moistening of already dried soils in some areas of the country. Strong moistening of the upper 10-centimetre soil layer is observed almost throughout the Mogilev region, in some areas of the Vitebsk region, and in places in other regions. In the rest of the republic, it is in a moderately moist state.
Grain germination is underway in spring cereal crops, and seedlings are appearing in the earliest sown areas in the southern regions. "Due to the unstable temperature regime, the duration of the 'sowing - germination' period is about two weeks. Tillering continues in winter cereal crops, and stem elongation has begun in the southwest of the country. The beginning of stem growth has been noted in winter rapeseed in some places. Visual assessments of the condition of winter crops in many observed fields are satisfactory. Post-wintering issues include rotting and damage to crops by snow mould, and waterlogging is observed in low-lying areas," the Belhydromet reported.
