On March 16, Minsk / Tatyana Lobas - BELTA /. Belkoopsoyuz has developed a set of measures to prevent possible negative consequences of spring floods, the press secretary of Belkoopsoyuz Elena Mokhor told a BELTA correspondent.
Trade organizations of consumer cooperatives have formed stocks of food products, drinking water, and non-food items, primarily rubber footwear and seasonal clothing, and children's goods for 40-45 days of uninterrupted supply to residents of settlements that may be subject to flooding.
Stocks of slate, cement, roofing felt, nails, paint, and glass have been created at the trade and distribution warehouses of district consumer cooperatives – these building materials will be needed by villagers after the spring flood to restore outbuildings and housing.
In each rural store, relevant notices have been posted about collecting applications from the public for rubber footwear, clothing, and other goods through stores and mobile shops.
In addition, hot meals are provided for both the population evacuated during the flood period and for employees directly involved in emergency situations. For this purpose, consumer cooperative catering enterprises have a sufficient number of isothermal containers for storing prepared food, and sets of disposable and table ware.
Belkoopsoyuz also reported that field kitchens will be deployed during the mass feeding of persons involved in the work to minimize the consequences of spring floods.
According to a preliminary analysis of the developing hydrometeorological situation, conducted by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, spring flood levels are predicted to be higher than the average long-term values this year.
The most likely flooding of individual economic facilities and settlements located along the riverbeds of the Berezina, Dnieper, Western Dvina, Pripyat, Pronya, and Sozh rivers in the Brest (Luninec, Pinsk and Stolyn districts), Vitebsk (Verkhnedvinsk district), Gomel (Buda-Koshelevsky, Dobrushsky, Yelcsky, Zhytkavichy, Lelchytsy, Loyew, Mozyr, Oktyabrsky and Petrikov districts) and Mogilev (Slavgorod and Chausy districts) regions is expected. -0-
