Soldiers of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment have once again prevented the smuggling of cigarettes into Latvia, BelTA was informed by Denis Glebko, Assistant Head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment. Tonight, at the Bigosovo railway station in the Verkhnedvinsk district on the Belarusian-Latvian border, Polotsk border guards discovered tobacco products in three gondola cars under a layer of coal in black polyethylene bags. The smugglers attempted to transport 39,000 packs of "Premier" cigarettes, packed in 78 boxes, to Latvia. Their estimated value is being determined by customs. Since the beginning of the year, soldiers of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment have prevented 91 attempts to illegally move over 1 million packs of cigarettes across the state border, with a total value exceeding Br4.5 billion. -0-
