18 October, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Belarusian authorities have managed to preserve their economy in the context of globalization. This viewpoint was expressed in a conversation with a BELTA correspondent by Vladimir Menshikov, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Daugavpils University (Latvia). He is participating in the international scientific and practical conference "Socio-economic Development of Organizations and Regions of Belarus: Sustainability, Development, Innovations," which is taking place today at Vitebsk State Technological University. "In the context of globalization, when the issue of the struggle for resources – raw materials, labor, intellectual – is acute, the task of the authorities is to improve people's quality of life, regardless of the economic or political systems the state positions itself within," the scholar is convinced. In this regard, Vladimir Menshikov positively assessed the activities of the Belarusian authorities aimed at protecting the interests of their own economy and improving citizens' living conditions. "Unlike Latvia, Belarus has managed to preserve its banking system, is developing its higher education system, and is preserving strategic sectors of the economy. As a result, there are no depressive sentiments in society," the professor stated. "At the same time, the country's economy is open. And there is no need to conduct research for this; it is enough to visit shops – the choice of industrial and food products is enormous, both domestically produced and imported. This was not the case even ten years ago," noted Vladimir Menshikov, who frequently visits Belarus. -0-
