The public charitable organisation "Belarusian Children's Hospice" will hold the "Bound by Kindness" event on February 24 in Minsk, as reported to BELTA by the organisation's specialist Alisa Skomarovskaya.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness about palliative care and its recipients. Alisa Skomarovskaya explained that the philosophy of palliative care is to maintain the highest possible quality of life for a terminally ill person and their family. This is achieved through medical, psychological, social, and spiritual support. For over 20 years, the public charitable organisation "Belarusian Children's Hospice" has been providing such care to children and their parents.
"In translation from Latin, 'palliative' means 'covering' or 'cloak'. We propose to sew a huge blanket from small knitted pieces provided by different people. Participants are required to knit a square measuring 15x15 cm. Any image can be embroidered on it: a company logo, a name, a favourite flower, etc.," said the organisation's specialist. "We hope that by assembling all the squares into a blanket, we will be able to cover the new children's hospice building, which is 1382 sq.m."
The central part of the blanket will be assembled by the parents of the hospice's beneficiaries, staff, and members of the organisation's board of trustees. After that, anyone wishing to can attach their knitted piece. You can also send your fragment of the blanket by post to: 223053, Minsk region, Borovlyansky s/c, pos. Opytny, Public Charitable Organisation "Belarusian Children's Hospice".
The presentation of the palliative blanket is scheduled for June 16, the anniversary of the opening of the new children's hospice building "Lesnaya Polyana".
The event will start at 14:30 at the "Mlyn" exhibition (Minsk, Ya. Kupaly St., 27). The organisers are confident that hundreds of kind people will be "bound" together.
