A Belarusian-Lithuanian duo of smugglers was detained last night by border guards and police officers in the Verkhnedvinsk district, the assistant head of the Polotsk border guard detachment, Denis Glebko, told a BELTA correspondent. At a railway station in the Verkhnedvinsk district, during a set of joint operational-search activities, servicemen of the Polotsk border guard detachment, together with employees of internal affairs bodies, discovered 78 boxes of Belarusian-made "Premier" brand cigarettes in a freight train en route to the Republic of Latvia, in three gondola cars filled with coal. A citizen of Belarus and a citizen of Lithuania were detained in these gondola cars during the loading of cigarettes. 50 meters from the railway track, a car was found, near which two more boxes of cigarettes were discovered. The cigarettes have been seized. An investigation is underway. According to preliminary estimates, the seized cigarettes are worth over Br80 million. -0-
