9 October, Minsk /Andrei Asfura - BELTA/. Genetic passports will soon be needed by every person. This opinion was expressed today to journalists by the Director of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Alexander Kilchevsky, in response to a question from a BELTA correspondent. The Institute of Genetics and Cytology is already creating genetic passports. Each passport includes information about 60 human genes. This information is necessary both for identifying predisposition to certain diseases and for a person's professional orientation, primarily for athletes. For example, when preparing an athlete, by studying their genes, their status can be identified – sprinter or stayer. Some athletes representing Belarus at international competitions have already received genetic passports. Similar research is also being conducted for ordinary Belarusians. To do this, they only need to contact the Institute of Genetics and Cytology. "First, it is necessary to talk to the person and find out what needs to be studied," noted Alexander Kilchevsky. A total of about 6,000 people have used the services for decoding individual genes. As a rule, the population turns to specialists on the recommendation of medical centers. Such research allows us to move towards personalized medicine, from treating a disease to treating a person. Genetic passports contain information about a person's hereditary potential and help identify their resistance to physical exertion. At the same time, scientists have identified genes that have a significant impact on endurance, strength, speed, and the ability to recover after physical exertion. Thanks to DNA diagnostics methods, it is possible to determine the characteristics of metabolism, the state of the cardiovascular system, the musculoskeletal system, and the properties of a person's higher nervous activity. And at the same time, identify the risks of developing various pathologies, including brain injuries, venous thrombosis, and excessive cardiac hypertrophy.-0-
