At a regular working meeting at BelVitunipharm JSC, issues concerning the commissioning of an pilot industrial workshop for the production of a COVID-19 vaccine and the import substitution of other vaccines used in our country's healthcare system but imported from abroad were discussed.

BelVitunipharm JSC is a high-tech enterprise for the production of veterinary drugs, holding one of the leading positions in the biological industry of Belarus and the CIS countries. Only the final touches remain, and the first pilot industrial production of a COVID-19 vaccine will be launched here.

As reported by the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Academician Vladimir Gusakov, the National Academy of Sciences, together with the Ministry of Health, has created a prototype vaccine against coronavirus infection, which has passed laboratory and preclinical trials confirming the drug's efficacy. Clinical trials on volunteers will also be conducted with the development of an experimental batch. The academician claims that the Belarusian vaccine against coronavirus infection is not inferior to foreign analogues in its characteristics but is adapted to the genotype of the Belarusian people.

– We are very close to launching pilot production, which should take place at the end of the month. Here we will be able to produce not only a vaccine for the prevention of COVID infection but also, if necessary, a whole range of other necessary vaccines and drugs used in domestic healthcare, – noted the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Health Dmitry Pinevich and others.
