Over the 9 months of 2017, the number of children who died from external causes in the Vitebsk region significantly increased, from 18 to 25. Of particular concern is the death of children by drowning (out of 5 drowning incidents, four children drowned in artificial bodies of water located on household plots or in horticultural associations).
In 2016, there were 6 cases of child deaths by drowning in the Lepel district.
For instance, on 26.03.2016, a minor, Nazarov Stanislav Dmitrievich, born on 27.07.2012, fell into a natural body of water located 150 metres from house 12 in the village of Gorozianki, Lepel district. Resuscitation efforts by his parents and medical staff of the Healthcare Institution "Lepel Central Regional Hospital" were unsuccessful, and "biological death from drowning" was pronounced in the ambulance.
In 2017, there were no cases of accidental drowning deaths of children in the district; however, there was a fatality of a child due to a soil collapse.
Thus, on 03.07.2017, at approximately 18:15, a minor, Zarembo Maksim Sergeevich, born on 22.06.2006, was found near Lake Lepel. Zarembo M.S.'s death occurred around 18:00 due to a sand collapse on a slope. The ambulance crew, called to the scene, commenced resuscitation measures. However, the child could not be saved.
In light of the foregoing, it is essential to educate children about safety rules near bodies of water (including artificial ones) and the consequences of not adhering to these rules. Teaching a child safety is not an easy task. However, it must be done from the earliest years. The most crucial element in this is the parents' own example.
The primary guarantee of children's safety is parental supervision and attention. Protect your children!
