On January 30, the State Nature Protection Institution "Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve" celebrates its 95th anniversary – a significant date in the national practice of preserving unique natural heritage.
It was established for the protection and breeding of rare animal species listed in the national Red Book, and birds. It is part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
Due to its biological diversity and the uniqueness of its natural complexes, the reserve holds exceptional significance not only for Belarus but for Europe as a whole. Four types of ecosystems are present here: dense forests, marshy wetlands, fast-flowing water bodies, and clear meadows. Forests are the predominant type, occupying about 89 percent of the reserve's territory.
The historical landmarks of the reserve include ancient burial mounds, the Berezina Water System – one of the ancient trade routes from the Varangians to the Greeks, and sites of battles of the Patriotic War of 1812.
The Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve is a unique place for our district and the country as a whole. Here, traditions are preserved while looking towards the future. Congratulations!
