4 April, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The exhibition of non-objective art "ABSTRACT-2012" opens today in Vitebsk. This year, the art project is being held for the 14th time, the Vitebsk Centre for Contemporary Art informed a BELTA correspondent. The exhibition features paintings, graphics, objects, and installations. Among the participants are Vitebsk artists, including young authors, as well as artists from Minsk. "ABSTRACT" is one of the most interesting author's projects in the artistic life of Vitebsk. The initiator and permanent curator of the project is Vasily Vasiliev, a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Associate Professor at the Vitebsk State Technological University. The project is focused on exhibiting works by artists of the non-objective trend of contemporary art, as these trends are predominant for Vitebsk. Non-objectivity in contemporary art is an aspiration to move away from authentic representation and perceived understanding. The authors of the exhibition shift their focus from the object to form, as the founders of abstract art did. The traditions of non-objective art were laid in Vitebsk back in the 1910s-1920s through the creative pursuits of the teachers and students of the Vitebsk People's Art School and are primarily associated with the artistic experiments of Kazimir Malevich and the members of the UNOVIS association. Subsequently, the abstract trend was supported by Alexander Solovyov, whose work influenced many contemporary artists of the city (the creative association "Kvadrat", etc.). The participants of the "ABSTRACT" project can be called successors to the experiments of the founders of the Vitebsk Art School in their research into the phenomenon of non-objectivity.-0-
