This year, 5,400 young people will graduate from secondary schools in the Vitebsk region. They will receive their tickets to adulthood during a celebratory evening, along with their certificates and centralized examination results. Buffet – from school cooks
— Applicants in the Vitebsk region, as well as across the country, now have significantly more opportunities to become students of priority educational institutions through targeted training. Winners of the third and final stages of republican olympiads receive substantial preferences. In general, there are various ways to get a ticket to adulthood. And how not to get lost in this life and choose the right path will be told in the farewell speeches during the graduation evening by school and gymnasium principals, teachers, and parents, — noted Vladimir Bednyakov, Head of the General Education Department of the Main Education Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
Representatives of executive and legislative authorities, as well as prominent political, public, sports, and cultural figures, traditionally speak at the ceremonial assembly. Vladimir Bednyakov emphasized that the graduation evening scenarios incorporate an ideological component and focus on historical memory. The main theme is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
Graduation evenings will traditionally be held in the students' home schools and gymnasiums – no restaurants or drinking establishments. Dishes from the graduation menu will be prepared in the educational institutions' canteens. This is a convenient way to organize safe, delicious, and inexpensive catering. The preferences and wishes of the schoolchildren and their parents are taken into account.
— After the entertainment program concludes, the students will go out onto the school grounds, into the park, or to the embankment to meet the dawn, — emphasized Vladimir Bednyakov. — And with them will be the heads of educational institutions, teachers, and parents. This glorious tradition is maintained in almost all schools and gymnasiums.
Poems for the teacher as a keepsake
The Oryokhovo Secondary School named after Yu. V. Smirnov in the Orsha District has perhaps the most interesting tradition. It involves graduates writing poems and creating commemorative crafts specifically for each teacher. The students actively participate in preparing the script for the graduation ceremony under the guidance of the event organiser.
— We also involve tenth-graders, — says the school principal, Anna Yazykova. — They are the successors of traditions. The formal part lasts about two hours, featuring congratulations from guests, teachers, and the class teacher, as well as parting words. We invite the chairperson of the town/village executive committee, heads of enterprises, and a representative of the Orsha District Executive Committee. After the presentation of certificates and centralized examination certificates, students will have a photo session, entertainment, and a festive meal in the school canteen prepared by local chefs.
Together with teachers and parents, the students meet the dawn in the schoolyard and release balloons with wishes. Each of the eleventh-graders at the Oryokhovo school has decided on their future profession. They are pursuing agricultural, pedagogical, legal, and even aviation specialities. They are focused solely on success, and their parents and teachers will always support them.
Procession down the main street
A wonderful tradition of holding graduation ceremonies has been established at the Rossono Secondary School named after P. M. Masherov. Before the ceremony begins, students gather in the schoolyard, listen to the director's parting words, sing the anthem, and proceed in a beautiful procession down the main street of the town/village to lay flowers at the memorial complex.
— Local residents watch the procession, — says the school principal, Elena Morozova. — The formal part is traditionally held in the RDC (District House of Culture), where parents, teachers, and everyone interested gather. Representatives of the district executive committee and the education department are present in the hall.
Then, the children go to their home school, where a festive disco and entertainment program are organised for them. Following this is a joint sunrise meeting with teachers and parents. This year, there are 24 graduates at the Rossono Secondary School.
— Everyone may have different preferences regarding the graduation party, and families have different income levels, — explains Elena Morozova. — Therefore, we came up with a budget-friendly option that would suit everyone. The buffet was organised in the school canteen, which looks perfect: it underwent a major renovation in 2022. We decorated the photo zone ourselves. The parents decided to invite an external professional as the host.
This will be the concluding act with games, memories, and wishes. Parents and teachers will share the festive mood with the children.
