Railway transport is considered one of the safest in the world. However, in addition to the general safety of railway transport, there is also the personal safety of each passenger, which depends entirely on adherence to certain rules.

We are all, of course, familiar with general safety rules, such as:

- railway tracks can only be crossed at designated places;
- boarding and alighting from a carriage can only be done after the train has come to a complete stop;

However, in addition to general safety rules, there are also prohibitive rules, such as:

- it is forbidden to approach a moving train closer than 2 meters;
- crossing or running across railway tracks in front of an approaching train;
- walking on railway tracks;
- at stations and on sections, climbing under carriages and over automatic couplers

Solely due to the non-observance of the most elementary safety rules, 35 citizens were injured as a result of accidents at railway transport facilities in the first 4 months of 2016 (53 in 2015), which is 34.0% less than in the previous year. Of the injured, 18 citizens died, 12 citizens sustained injuries, and 5 citizens committed suicide or were injured while attempting suicide. Of the 35 injured, 11 citizens were intoxicated. The main causes in 16 cases were crossing railway tracks at an unauthorized location or walking on the tracks, in 4 cases citizens lying on the rails while intoxicated were injured, in 5 cases intentional suicide attempts, in 9 cases violation of safety measures while on platforms during train arrival, and in 1 case injury from electric shock.

In order to prevent accidents in the Lepel district, a special set of measures called "Safety" will be carried out from May 23, 2016, to May 25, 2016. Its main objective is the prevention of accidents and road traffic incidents at railway transport facilities.
