Winter is associated not only with New Year, sledging and snow. It also brings icy conditions, frostbite, and serious injuries.

When the pavement turns into an ice rink, the main rule is to choose comfortable footwear. You should move cautiously, stepping on your entire sole. It is important to remember that during icy conditions, it is hundreds of times harder for a car to stop than for a person.

When walking past multi-storey buildings, do not walk close to the walls. It is necessary to avoid all possible accumulations of snow and ice hanging from roofs and trees.

Under no circumstances should you jump into snowdrifts. Beneath the layer of snow, there may be stones, various household waste, pits, industrial tanks, and more. For instance, in February 2021, in Lepel, a child fell into a water collection tank located in a wasteland behind the reception and procurement point while playing in the winter. The aforementioned tank was covered with snow and resembled a slide, thus not being perceived as a danger by the minor. Following this incident, the tank was covered with sand, but due to weather conditions, the sand subsided, and the well again posed a danger to minors. In June 2021, by order of the district prosecutor's office, the aforementioned tank was dismantled.

It is best to avoid water bodies in winter. Going out onto the ice alone is unsafe. A few minutes of joy are not worth a human life. If going out onto the ice is unavoidable, you must remember that jumping and stamping on the ice is forbidden. It is unacceptable to play on frozen water bodies; ice skating should only be done on specially equipped rinks.

Adhering to these simple rules will help preserve your health and avoid injuries and accidents during the winter period.
