Child Safety During Summer Holidays

For children, the summer period brings joy, the opportunity to sunbathe and swim, have fun with friends and spend a lot of time outdoors, go to a summer camp or visit their grandmother in the village. For adults, however, this is a time of anxiety and great responsibility. After all, the most important thing is to ensure that nothing happens to the child. Therefore, the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations suggests once again recalling the dangers that can lie in wait for children, and together trying to avoid trouble.

The first danger is fire. The main thing to explain to children is that matches and lighters are for household chores, not for playing. Even a small spark can lead to big trouble anywhere, at home and outside. Reinforce fire safety rules with children, remind your child of emergency service numbers and how to call them.

The eternal enemy of fire is water. But it can also pose a danger. Most families prefer to spend hot summer days on the beaches of reservoirs – lakes, rivers, seas. Adults and children enjoy swimming and sunbathing, breathing fresh air. Here, the main condition for a child's safety is to swim accompanied by an adult. It is necessary to explain to children why they should not swim in unfamiliar places and go to reservoirs without adults. The bottom of a river or lake can hide many dangers: submerged snags, sharp fragments, cold springs, and deep pits. Children should also firmly understand that playing in the water is dangerous, it is strictly forbidden to dive in places not intended for this, one should not swim too far on inflatable mattresses and rings, and should not give false distress signals.

Very often, children like to find quite interesting places to play. It is not uncommon during the summer period for children to play in quarries. Rescuers remind that quarries are not places for games. You cannot dig trenches and tunnels in the sand, as it can collapse. You cannot be on unstable and loose soil, approach the edge of the quarry. It is forbidden to approach working quarry equipment. Explain and tell your children these simple rules.

The village or dacha is not only a place for rest but also for gardening. If you have treated vegetables

with chemicals, then be sure to secure the area with some kind of fencing and explain to the child in an understandable way that entering there is strictly forbidden, and even more so to pick and taste them. Remove medicines and chemical substances needed for household needs, to places inaccessible to the child. Make sure that there are no poisonous plants on the site. If there is a forest nearby, show and tell the child which plants and berries should not be touched, and even more so eaten.

While doing household chores, do not forget that the child should not be left to themselves – you should know where they are and with whom they are playing. If it comes to young children, there is one piece of advice – do not leave them unattended even for a few minutes.

Dear parents! Summer is a wonderful time for relaxation, positive emotions, and vivid impressions. But it is also the most dangerous period for children. Therefore, do everything to protect your child from trouble. Try to make your rest as safe as possible, be near your children and protect them.
