Belarusian State University has taken fourth place in the ranking of the best universities in CIS member states. This is evidenced by the latest results of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, according to BelTA.
The first place in the ranking among CIS countries is held by Lomonosov Moscow State University (216th place in the world ranking). It is followed by Saint Petersburg State University (526th) and Novosibirsk State University (548th). In the world ranking in January 2017, BSU was ranked 637th out of more than 22,000 ranked higher education institutions. Compared to August 2016, the university dropped three positions – it was ranked 634th at that time. BSU has demonstrated stable positions in the Webometrics ranking for the past few years, being in the top 2-3% of the world's best universities (considering that there are over 30,000 higher education institutions worldwide).
Among Belarusian universities, BSU consistently maintains its leading position. The second place is held by Belarusian National Technical University (2891st in the world ranking), and the third by Yanka Kupala Grodno State University (3122nd position). Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank has significantly improved its position in the ranking. Among Belarusian higher education institutions, it is ranked 9th.
Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology traditionally occupy the top positions in the ranking.
The Webometrics university ranking is calculated by the Cybermetrics research group, part of the Spanish National Research Council. Webometrics analyses the presence of universities on the internet, including scientific publications. According to the ranking developers, the indicators used provide a comprehensive picture of the activities of university faculty and researchers. The ranking is published twice a year.
