Leningrad Siege survivors have collected exhibits for a museum at one of Vitebsk's schools, which is set to open on May 6, the Department of Education, Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee informed BELTA.
"The idea to create such a museum belongs to the Siege survivors themselves. Today, 49 of them live in Vitebsk. They have gathered exhibits for the future museum room, for which space has been allocated at our school. The director of the regional museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M. Shmyrev provided significant assistance in its creation. A history teacher has trained several student guides. They will conduct a tour for guests on the opening day and will also receive visitors by appointment thereafter," said Natalia Kovalevskaya, an organiser at Secondary School No. 28.
The core of the museum room's exhibition consists of original and copied documents: letters and autobiographies, certificates of heroic participation in the defence of besieged Leningrad, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Some of the Siege survivors have donated medals and personal belongings to the museum's collection. In total, the exhibition features around 120 exhibits.
It is expected that among the distinguished guests at the grand opening will be residents and participants of the defence of Leningrad, who will travel to Vitebsk from other cities specifically for the event.
