Anyone can participate in the folk entertainment. According to the game, two rivals – "roosters" – will have to fight with pillows on a log. The goal of each of them is to push the opponent off. "Just like in ancient times, this mock fight is extremely popular and evokes quite serious passions," noted the specialists, adding that Maslenitsa at the cultural and historical complex will feature many other fun sports competitions and contests.
In addition, visitors to the festival will be able to see a historical theatrical performance, performances by creative groups, ride horses and ponies, explore interesting exhibitions currently running at "Dvina", and taste pancakes. The culmination of the festival will be the burning of the effigy of winter.
Grand Maslenitsa festivities will gather guests and residents of the regional center on the upcoming weekend. On March 16, the cultural and sports festival "Maslenitsa" will be organized in the floodplain of the Vitba River and at the site near the Palace of Culture in the urban settlement of Ruba. On March 17, folk festivities will take place at the Cultural and Historical Complex "Golden Ring of Vitebsk "Dvina"" and the Soviet Army Cultural and Recreational Complex. The latter also has an interesting leisure program prepared, with ski and sled rentals and outdoor trade available. -0-
