Last year, over 10.5 thousand veterans and disabled individuals received assistance with repairs to their apartments, houses, outbuildings, stoves, electrical wiring, plumbing, gas, and electrical equipment, as well as the installation of fire alarms, totaling Br12.9 billion. According to specialists, in all settlements of the republic, including the most remote and sparsely populated ones, assessments of the living conditions of Great Patriotic War veterans, persons affected by the consequences of wars, lonely elderly people, and disabled individuals of the first and second groups are being conducted. This work is envisaged by the subprogramme "Social Support for Veterans, Persons Affected by the Consequences of Wars, Elderly People, and Disabled Individuals" of the Comprehensive Social Services Development Programme for 2011-2015. During these assessments, the need for various types of assistance is identified. By the end of 2014, the living conditions of 213.2 thousand individuals from these categories were surveyed, including 17.8 thousand Great Patriotic War veterans; 25.9 thousand citizens affected by the consequences of wars; 135.4 thousand lonely elderly people; and 21 thousand lonely disabled individuals of the first and second groups.
Last year, 82.2 thousand people received additional financial assistance from the funds of the Population Social Protection Fund, amounting to Br35.3 billion, and 17.5 thousand people received assistance from local budgets, amounting to Br50.3 billion. Local executive and administrative bodies provided assistance to 615 veteran organizations in financing their events.
For the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, 50.1 thousand veterans and persons affected by the consequences of the war received one-time financial assistance. The total amount of payments was Br235.9 billion.
As previously reported by BELTA, as of January 1st of the current year, 17.8 thousand Great Patriotic War veterans resided in the republic, including 12 thousand disabled individuals and participants of the Great Patriotic War, as well as 27.9 thousand citizens affected by the consequences of wars.
