More than 30 settlements in Belarus will join the global cleanup "Let's Do It-2016" on April 9, the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection informed BELTA.
"In 2016, the international campaign to clean up unauthorized waste dumps 'Let's Do It' will be held in various countries around the world, and Belarus will join it on April 9. In our country, this will be a kind of start for holding clean-up days for tidying up and improving cities and settlements," the department explained.
The press service noted that a large number of ministries, departments, state organizations, educational institutions, public associations, and private organizations have expressed their desire to participate in the "Zroбім-2016/Let's Do It-2016" campaign. "Currently, information has been received about clean-ups being held in more than 30 cities and settlements in Belarus," the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection reported.
Iya Malkina, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Oleg Poskrobko, First Deputy Minister of Housing and Communal Services, employees of the mentioned ministries, as well as specialists from the Ministry of Justice will take part in cleaning the coastal area of the lake located in the village of Siennica, Minsk region, on April 9 at 11:00 AM.
The environmental department emphasized that the main goal of "Zroбім" is to involve Belarusians in the elimination of unauthorized garbage dumps in forests, near water bodies, and in other hard-to-reach places.
In Belarus, the global cleanup "Let's Do It" ("Zroбім") has been held since 2013. In 2015, the event took place in 24 cities of the country. About 40 illegal dumps were cleaned up, with over 1000 people participating.
