More than 300 children will have a rest this year at the "Zhemchuzhina" children's rehabilitation and health resort centre in Lepel district, funded by the Standing Committee of the Union State, the director of the medical and health institution Vera Zakrevskaya informed a BELTA correspondent. Since September, a group of children from Kaluga region (Russia) and various districts of Gomel region have already had a 21-day rest here. The teenagers combined various health procedures with active recreation, filled with various sports and creative activities and excursions. In particular, the children held a series of round tables and quizzes, which allowed them to learn more about the countries of the Union State, visited the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve, the Lepel Museum of Local Lore, the "Proryv" and "Khatyn" memorial complexes, and saw the sights of Polotsk. Currently, more than 60 young residents of Gomel and Tula regions are improving their health at "Zhemchuzhina", and in early December, two groups of children from Bryansk region (Russia) are expected here. "Next year, the centre plans to continue its participation in the Union programmes for children's health improvement," added Vera Zakrevskaya. In total, over the past years, more than 1.1 thousand children from the districts of Russia and Belarus most affected by the consequences of the Chernobyl NPP disaster have undergone sanatorium-resort treatment at the "Zhemchuzhina" children's rehabilitation and health resort centre, funded by the Standing Committee of the Union State. The "Zhemchuzhina" children's rehabilitation and health resort centre is located in a pine forest on the shore of Lake Shchibot. All necessary conditions for accommodation, health improvement and rehabilitation of children with various pathologies have been created here. -0-
