"In 2016, 4,928 people were employed in newly created jobs through the opening of enterprises and production facilities (149.3% of the annual target). Of these, 2,332 people found employment at new enterprises. This year, it is necessary to create 5,750 jobs in the region," the committee reported.
Over Br5 million was allocated last year to provide employment assistance and implement measures to promote employment. The employment rate for unemployed individuals was 52%. In total, over 34,000 people sought assistance from employment services in finding jobs, of whom 23,200 were registered as unemployed. "Approximately one-third of them were dismissed by mutual agreement, and every fifth person had not worked anywhere for over a year. The region is seeing a decrease in the registration of unemployed citizens dismissed for violating labour discipline and of their own volition. Currently, the average unemployed person is a 42-year-old man with vocational and technical education, dismissed by mutual agreement," the committee stated.
The registered unemployment rate in the Vitebsk region as of January 1st was 1%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to last year's level.
