26 November, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. More than 50 schools in the Vitebsk region require the installation of fences, Ivan Shchurok, head of the education department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, informed a BELTA correspondent.
According to him, in connection with the tragic incident of a student's death in Minsk, a monitoring of all 535 schools in the region was carried out in the Vitebsk region. "We checked for the presence of fences, turnstiles, barriers, and other protective devices on school grounds, artificial bumps on approaches to them, and also reviewed other issues related to ensuring road safety. According to the inspection results, it was found that 53 schools need the installation of fences, including ten in Vitebsk, four in Novopolotsk, one in Polotsk, and three in Orsha. The rest are located in rural areas," Ivan Shchurok said. The amount of funds required for these purposes has not yet been calculated, but this issue will be addressed, he added.
To ensure road safety and raise the awareness of children and adolescents, the regional education department has established close cooperation with the traffic police department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Children receive their first knowledge on this topic in the senior groups of preschool institutions, and it is studied more broadly and fully at school in the course "Fundamentals of Safe Living". "Teachers pay increased attention to road safety rules, fire safety, and water safety in discussions with both students and their parents. The issue is that parents, who are the main role models for children, do not always follow the established rules themselves," Ivan Shchurok concluded. -0-
