"There are 10 schools in the region that were undergoing major repairs and where final tidying-up works are still being carried out. However, these educational institutions will receive readiness certificates by August 25," said Dmitry Khoma.
This year, over Br30 million has already been allocated for the development of the material and technical base of schools in the Vitebsk region, compared to about Br22 million allocated in 2017. Major repairs have been carried out, and educational equipment, furniture, and sports equipment have been purchased. Over the past two years, the fleet of school buses has been replenished with 78 vehicles, accounting for 31% of the total number of vehicles.
By 2021, it is planned to establish "schools of the future" in the districts of the region, which will become a unique resource centre for promoting innovations in education within the district and city. These schools will concentrate cutting-edge technologies, modern equipment, and strong teaching staff.
"The creation of schools of the future is not a PR stunt, but a step towards improving education. We have become convinced of this in one year based on the example of the school in Dubrovno," added the representative of the Regional Executive Committee.
According to Dmitry Khoma, the optimization of general secondary education institutions in the region is practically complete, which has yielded results and allowed for cost savings. In the future, only minor adjustments may be made.
"This year, over 300 educational institutions will operate in the region, including 23 gymnasiums and 2 cadet schools. The Tolochin Gymnasium and Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 6 have been reorganized into secondary schools. A total of over 110,000 children will enter school classrooms on September 1st," Dmitry Khoma reported.
Furthermore, 450 young teachers will begin their careers in the new academic year. Motivating them to stay at their first place of employment is the primary task for both the management of educational institutions and local authorities.
An oblast conference of education and science workers was held in Vitebsk. It brought together over 1,000 educators and guests. The participants focused on the results of educational institutions' preparation for the new season, the outcomes of the past academic year, and future work objectives.
