12 July, Brest /Olga Kobyak – BELTA/. Brest expects to earn over €0.5 million from hosting the World Rowing U23 Championships, which will take place from 21-25 July in the city on the Bug River. This was announced to journalists today by the Head of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Khevuk, reports BELTA correspondent. The financing of these championships is provided by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Belarus and the Belarusian Rowing Federation. In total, they have allocated about Br1.2 billion, Nikolai Khevuk reported. During the championships, the hotel network, recreation centres of Brest and Brest District, as well as agro-tourism estates will be maximally involved for the accommodation of VIP persons and foreign tourists. Trade organisations and public catering enterprises of the regional centre, in addition to stationary facilities, will expand their network of mobile outlets during the championship days. The maximum number of these will be concentrated in the area of the rowing canal, including a restaurant with 200 seats. "The World Rowing U23 Championships, which Brest is preparing to host, will be the largest sporting event in our country in 2010. We expect not only to recoup the expenses incurred for its organisation, but also to make a profit. Last year, Brest earned $380,000 from hosting the European Rowing Championships. This year, considering that we will host almost twice as many athletes and guests, we expect revenues to be around €520,000," explained Nikolai Khevuk.-0-
