Over a hundred units of weapons have been seized and removed from circulation in the Vitebsk region within a week, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. In total, from March 26 to the morning of March 30, police officers of the region removed 63 unregistered firearms from illegal circulation, seized 521 rounds of ammunition and 860 g of explosives. During the reporting period, citizens voluntarily surrendered 43 registered firearms, 1.3 kg of explosives, 2.2 thousand rounds of ammunition and 128 explosive devices (most often mines, grenades, shells from the Great Patriotic War period) to law enforcement agencies. 81 firearms were seized from legal owners for various offenses. 70 residents of the region have been held accountable for illegal actions related to weapons, ammunition and explosives, including 62 people held administratively liable. 8 criminal cases have been registered under Article 295 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ("Illegal actions concerning firearms, ammunition and explosives"). Seizures of weapons and ammunition were recorded in every region of the oblast, but this time they were most frequently encountered in Beshenkovichsky, Polotsky, Gorodoksky, Verkhnedvinsky districts, Vitebsk, Orsha and Novopolotsk, the Internal Affairs Directorate added. The objective of the republican operational-preventive special complex event "Arsenal" is to counteract the illegal trafficking of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices and explosives.
