Rescuers had to wash off more than a ton of hydraulic oil from the highway due to a road traffic accident on the Polotsk-Vitebsk highway, the Vitebsk Regional Emergency Management Department informed a BELTA correspondent. The report of the accident on the 73rd kilometer of the highway was received by the emergency services on August 16. Upon arrival at the scene, it was established that the driver of a GAZ 53 vehicle from Zhlobin lost control, resulting in the vehicle overturning. The vehicle was transporting 2 tons of hydraulic oil. As a result of the road accident, about 1.3 tons of oil were spilled. Rescuers washed the oil off the roadway and created a foam cushion to prevent ignition of flammable lubricants. The driver left the vehicle on his own. He was hospitalized by an ambulance crew with injuries of varying severity at the Polotsk Central City Hospital. According to environmentalists, the accident did not cause harm to the environment.
