More than a third of the most serious road traffic accidents occur in fog.

All objects, including the dimensions of the vehicle ahead, appear much further away than they actually are. Road signs, pedestrians, and traffic lights become less visible.

The most reliable rule is to postpone your trip in fog. If this is not possible, choose a speed at which you will have enough time to react to an obstacle. This speed should be less than half the visibility distance. When visibility does not exceed 20 metres, drive no faster than 10 km/h. In very dense fog, it is best to stop, pulling over at a petrol station, car park, or as far onto the shoulder as possible.

Using high beam headlights is prohibited, and also impossible – it reflects and dazzles. Fog usually hangs a few centimetres above the ground, and properly adjusted fog lights will be most effective.

Drive in the centre of your lane. Avoid sudden manoeuvres; overtaking is prohibited.
