22 October, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. Niche tourism may attract Britons to Belarus. This viewpoint was expressed to journalists by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Belarus, Rosemary Thomas. Today she is on an introductory visit to the Vitebsk region, reports a BELTA correspondent. During her year of work in Belarus, the ambassador has visited the Brest and Grodno regions. She admitted that she became convinced of the broad opportunities that the country can offer tourists who prefer non-mass recreation. "Belarus is a country of niche tourism for history, art, and ecology enthusiasts," believes Rosemary Thomas. At the same time, Belarusian companies lack advertising to develop this area. "We need to look for creative approaches, perhaps it is worth writing an article about what excellent fishing there is in Belarus, how interesting it is to observe the life of forest birds," advises the diplomat. The ambassador also noted that much has been done recently to develop tourism infrastructure, and that more and more Belarusians are speaking English. However, the language barrier still remains an obstacle to tourism development. "Unfortunately, even in good restaurants in Minsk, there are no menus in English. For me, this is an opportunity to practice Russian, which I studied at university, but the average Briton will face communication difficulties," she added. -0-
