BRSM launches the youth marathon "Belarus Remembers. Native Faces of Victory"

The Belarusian Republican Youth Union announces the launch of the youth marathon "Belarus Remembers. Native Faces of Victory," dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders and the creation of a national memory album of the same name featuring photographs of great-grandfathers and grandfathers – liberators and victors. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Dmitry Voronyuk, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the NGO "BRSM."

"During the solemn event at the Victory Monument in Minsk on May 9, BSMU activists informed the President about their project and demonstrated the 'Belarus Remembers' album, which contains photographs and brief stories about the relatives of the young people who fought in the Great Patriotic War. Supporting the youth initiative, the Head of State gave the young men and women a unique send-off, inscribing the slogan of the republican campaign 'Belarus Remembers' on the album cover, aimed at preserving the sacred memory of every war participant for future generations," said Dmitry Voronyuk.

The youth expedition to collect photographs and stories of their heroes will take place from May to July along the liberation routes of their native country: through Komarin - Rechytsa - Gomel - Bobruisk - Mogilev - Shklov - Orsha - Vitebsk - Polotsk - Ostrovets - Lida - Grodno - Pruzhany - Brest - Pinsk - Baranovichi - Dzerzhinsk - Molodechno - Borisov - Soligorsk and Minsk. "In every Belarusian home, black-and-white photographs of great-grandfathers, grandfathers, and fathers who defended and liberated our country from the fascists, and stories about the heroic deeds of our countrymen are carefully preserved and passed down from generation to generation. To collect material for the album along the liberation route of Belarus, a minibus branded with the 'Belarus Remembers' campaign logos will travel. It will house a mobile laboratory equipped with a computer, scanner, and color printer. Photographs will be collected at stops along the marathon route. Here, it is planned to scan and stylize the photographs for inclusion in the memory album," noted the First Secretary of the BSMU Central Committee.

The 75 pages of the album will be filled proportionally upon the completion of the marathon in each of the regions. "The album is planned to feature photos of liberators from all corners of Belarus. The selection of images for the exhibition will be held on a competitive basis. I am confident that talented Belarusian youth – scholarship holders of the President's funds, winners of international competitions and Olympiads – will participate in the creation of the album. An integral part of the national album will be its electronic version, which will take into account every submitted photograph. We plan to complete the marathon by July 3. We want to do this at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, where we will solemnly hand over the album "Belarus Remembers. Native Faces of Victory" for safekeeping," emphasized Dmitry Voronyuk.

"Grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the victors remember and honour the feat of our relatives. The blood of the liberators, shed on the sacred Belarusian land, flows in every Belarusian. This is not just a duty, it is within us – to remember the truth and remember our heroes. Belarus remembers," he added.
