As spring and warmer weather arrive, owners of private houses and garden plots begin to actively tidy up their properties. Rubbish, last year's grass, tree leaves – everything that catches the eye of a conscientious owner is subject to cleaning.

With the onset of spring and warmer weather, owners of private houses and garden plots begin to actively tidy up their properties. Rubbish, last year's grass, tree leaves – everything that catches the eye of a conscientious owner is subject to cleaning. Quite often, owners choose the easiest and quickest way to destroy rubbish – by burning. While the fire is "tidying up" the plot, there is a moment to discuss the latest news with neighbours, and to think about plans for the upcoming season.

Engrossed in spring chores, owners too late notice that the flames, fanned by the wind, have already spread to adjacent territories and nearby structures. It is impossible to cope with such a fire without the help of rescuers – there is a high probability of finding oneself in a fiery trap or suffocating in smoke.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds:

- special devices for cooking and bonfires should be used, provided that the burning and smouldering process is continuously monitored;

- places for bonfires must be cleared of combustible substances and materials, dry vegetation, and equipped with extinguishing agents;

- the burning and smouldering process must be carried out in such a way that flames and sparks do not fall on combustible elements of buildings, utility structures and constructions, or on stored combustible substances and materials;

- upon completion of the burning process, the remains of burning (smouldering) materials must be extinguished until smouldering completely ceases;

- the use of highly flammable and combustible liquids (except for liquids specifically designed for ignition) to ignite bonfires and coals is FORBIDDEN.

We draw the attention of citizens to the fact that administrative liability from 10 to 30 basic units is provided for violation of these fire safety rules.
