On July 8, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The joint Russian-Belarusian exhibition project "A Bouquet for a Slav Woman" will be available for viewing by guests of the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" festival, as reported to BELTA correspondent by the Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Art.
The collection of Pavlovsky Posad shawls and costume designs, presented in the "Musical Drawing Room" of Vitebsk, is the result of the creative work of a team of artists from OJSC "Pavlovsky Posad Shawl Manufactory" and the "Golden Ring of Vitebsk City 'Dvina'" cultural and historical complex.
The core of the project is a collection of shawls, showcasing the original works of leading artists from the Pavlovsky Posad Shawl Manufactory. The project leader, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Viktor Zubritsky, developed compositions for souvenir shawls dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812, and recreated designs of antique 19th-century shawls, which provided a retrospective backdrop to the collection and revealed the historical traditions of the craft. This part of the exhibition includes the shawls "Rus'" and "Zhuravushka," evoking poetic images of Russia and Belarus, as well as the shawl composition "Stary Zamak" (Old Castle), dedicated to Belarusian history.
The collection of costume designs, developed by a member of the city club of folk art masters of the "Golden Ring of Vitebsk City 'Dvina'" cultural and historical complex based on Pavlovsky Posad shawls, presents an unconventional approach to reviving the traditions of Slavic folk costume. Its author, N. Bobrovich, reconstructed the folk costume that was common in the Vitebsk-Pskov and Vitebsk-Smolensk borderlands at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, calling it "retrostyling," and also created modern designs executed in the traditions of constructivism and folkism.
