30 October, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. A criminal case has been initiated against a former investigator for violating the secrecy of telephone conversations, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region informed a BELTA correspondent.
"The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region has initiated a criminal case against two individuals, including a former investigator of the Novopolotsk State Committee for Security, who unlawfully violated the secrecy of citizens' telephone and other communications. This involved the unlawful obtaining and transfer of information about the connections of a subscriber number used by a citizen to third parties without official necessity," informed Inna Gorbacheva, the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region.

The criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 203 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ("Violation of the secrecy of correspondence, telephone conversations, telegraph or other messages"), the sanctions of which provide for punishment up to imprisonment for a term of up to two years. -0-
