The building of the former monastery, constructed in 1735, which according to legend was visited by Napoleon during his march to Moscow, has been sold at an electronic auction for the basic rate (45 Belarusian rubles).
The former Carmelite monastery is a two-story rectangular building with a basement, covered by a gable roof. The building is attached to the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This ensemble is a striking example of the Baroque architectural era in Belarus.
Previously, the State Property Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee had unsuccessfully put the monastery building up for auction 19 times, but no buyers were found.
The new owner is a private organization from Minsk, which was the sole participant in the auction. The main condition of the sale is its restoration as a historical and cultural value object.
In the future, it is possible to house administrative and economic or religious (cult) facilities here.
Currently, the committee is offering 5 more objects with historical and cultural value status for sale. These include the alcohol plant building in the agro-town of Plamya, Senno district, the post station in the village of Pogorbenka, Senno district, the forge in the agro-town of Dvor-Nizgalovo, Beshenkovichi district, and manor houses in the village of Goloshevo, Tolochin district, and in the village of Novaya Zhizn, Ushachi district.
It should be noted that all objects are offered for sale for one basic rate. The mandatory condition for sale is their restoration.
