November 20, Minsk /Tatyana Ivanyuk - BELTA/. Belarusian Railway plans to implement an automated fare payment and control system for urban line trains based on contactless smart cards next year. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Belarusian Railway specialists.

A prototype of the relevant system was presented at the "Transport and Logistics" exhibition held in Minsk.

According to the press centre, the work on automating fare payment and issuing travel documents will be continued in several areas. For example, it is planned to expand the network of self-service payment and information terminals for selling tickets for urban line trains and regional economy class trains. Currently, such devices are operating at two stations of the Belarusian railway – Minsk-Passazhirsky and Vitebsk. "These terminals will also be installed in other cities," the specialists clarified.

In addition, Belarusian Railway plans to implement a passenger boarding control system to automate the transfer of information about passengers who have completed electronic registration to the train crew.-0-
