VITEBSK, 6 July (BelTA) – Expositions by Russian artists will launch the programme of celebrations dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall’s birth in Vitebsk on 6 July, BelTA has learned from the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History. The exposition by St. Petersburg artists features metal installations alongside paintings and graphics by 10 young artists who sought to convey their feelings about Marc Chagall’s works in their paintings. The exposition “Dedication to Marc Chagall” by the Moscow State Museum “Burganov’s House” will be held at the Vitebsk Art Museum (a branch of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local History). This exhibition will also include paintings, graphic arts and sculptures. Although the official date of birth is 6 July, Marc Chagall himself celebrated it on 7 July. Therefore, his hometown organises numerous significant and interesting events dedicated to the master during these days. Meetings “Visiting Marc and Bella” on Pokrovskaya Street near the House-Museum of the artist have become very popular with locals and guests of the city. A ceremony for the cancellation of stamps dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Marc Chagall will also be held on Pokrovskaya Street. The stamp features a portrait of Marc Chagall by his teacher Yehuda Pen and bears an inscription in four languages: Belarusian, English, French and Yiddish. On 8 July, Vitebsk will host the premiere of the documentary "Marc Chagall. Unreal Reality” produced by Belvideocenter. The Classic Avant-Garde group, directed by Vladimir Baidov, will present a musical-theatrical production “Dreams above Vitebsk”. The Israeli Cultural Centre at the Embassy of the State of Israel in the Republic of Belarus will present the exhibition "Chagall's Footsteps in Israel" at the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre.
