On August 15, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. Relics and an icon of Saints Peter and Fevronia will arrive at the Holy Assumption Cathedral in Vitebsk on August 22. This was reported to BelTA by the Vitebsk Diocese. The relics will be delivered to the city on the Dvina by noon on August 22 and will be exhibited for veneration in the cathedral until August 27. Believers will offer prayers to the saints for family creation, the gift of a child, pure love, and family well-being. The Vitebsk region is home to the only monument in Belarus to the blessed Peter and Fevronia of Murom. It was opened in the village of Sarya, Verkhnedvinsk district, on July 8, 2011, on the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. The village of Sarya was not chosen by chance for the monument's installation – in the early 19th century, local landowner Ignat Lopatin­sky, in memory of his wife Maria who died early, built a magnificent neo-Gothic church, which decades later became the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Peter was the son of Prince Yuri Vladimirovich of Murom and ascended the throne in 1203. A few years prior, Saint Peter fell ill with leprosy, from which no one could cure him. In a dream, he heard a prophecy that he could be healed by the daughter of a beekeeper, the pious maiden Fevronia. Upon meeting Fevronia in person, the prince fell in love with her for her piety, wisdom, and kindness, and vowed to marry her after his healing. Saint Fevronia healed Peter and became his wife. The holy couple Peter and Fevronia were renowned for their piety and mercy. They carried their love for each other through all trials and died on the same day and at the same hour on July 8, 1228. The bodies of the saints were placed in the same coffin. Currently, the relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia rest in the Church of the Holy Trinity of the Holy Trinity Monastery in Murom. -0-
