The Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora informs:
Wild garlic, also known as bear's garlic, is a plant listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus. Bear's garlic is a perennial plant that grows in damp places, usually near a water source. It prefers shady deciduous forests on moist soils. It grows in large groups. In Belarus, this plant is found in the western and central regions, along which the northeastern border of its range runs.
In accordance with Article 24 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the Flora", the unauthorised removal and transplantation of wild plants belonging to species included in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus from their habitat, their illegal trade, as well as their removal and any other actions that may lead to their death, reduction in numbers or destruction of their habitat, are prohibited.
For the unauthorised removal or destruction of wild plants belonging to species included in the Red Book, and their parts, Article 15.8 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus provides for a fine ranging from 20 to 50 base units.
In case of trading bear's garlic, liability is provided for by Article 12.17 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, which entails a fine of up to 10 base units.
