The laureates of the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region" for 2016 will be honored in Vitebsk on February 3, the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The ceremonial event will take place in the "Vitebsk" Concert Hall. The heroes of the day will be 100 residents of the region awarded the honorary title, representing various sectors of the national economy: industry, agro-industrial complex, healthcare, education, housing and communal services, service sector, culture, law enforcement agencies, small and medium-sized businesses, energy, physical culture and sports, mass media, etc.
The awarding of the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region" has been held in the region since 2009 with the aim of encouraging merits in promoting and implementing the social and economic policy of the state and local government bodies, implementing measures to ensure legality and law and order, achievements in science, education and culture, and active public activities. The best people of the region receive laureate diplomas and a monetary award. In addition, according to tradition, billboards with their photographs will adorn the settlements of the region throughout the year.
