Four schoolchildren injured in a fire at the Rosson school on March 7 will be discharged home today, the chief physician of the Vitebsk Children's Regional Clinical Hospital, Alexander Pitkevich, told a BELTA correspondent. Two more schoolchildren will continue their treatment for now: one boy is scheduled for surgery, and a girl with a spinal injury requires strict bed rest under medical supervision. The condition of the remaining children in the hospital is assessed as satisfactory and does not cause concern among medical professionals. As reported, on March 7 at 8:00 AM, a report was received by the Rosson Department for Emergency Situations about a fire in the 3-story building of the Masherov Rosson Secondary School. Four units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the scene. Together with the school administration, 575 children and 36 teachers were evacuated. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there were no casualties from burns or carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of the incident. The school building was not damaged, only the walls were smoke-stained. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was the careless handling of fire by an unidentified person, which led to the ignition of stored waste paper. Several schoolchildren, frightened by the heavy smoke, began to jump out of the windows and sustained injuries of varying severity. Eight injured children initially sought medical attention; seven were hospitalised at the Rosson Central District Hospital, and then six of them were transferred to the Children's Regional Hospital. The Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk Region has initiated a criminal case regarding the fire at the Rosson Secondary School under Article 304 of the Criminal Code of Belarus "Violation of fire safety rules, resulting in grievous bodily harm or less grievous bodily harm." -0-
