Four people, including a Latvian citizen, died in the past 24 hours in three fires in the Vitebsk region, the propaganda and training center at the Vitebsk Regional Emergency Situations Department informed a BELTA correspondent. All fatal incidents occurred at night and, according to preliminary information, were caused by the carelessness of the deceased while smoking. In Braslav district, a tragedy occurred in the village of Vasilkishki-1 in a house that belonged to a local forester and was used as a summer cottage. The report of the fire was received about half an hour before midnight from neighbors; by the time rescuers arrived, the house was engulfed in flames and the roof had collapsed. After extinguishing the fire, the bodies of the owner, born in 1968, and his acquaintance, a pensioner from a neighboring village who was a Latvian national, were found under the debris of burnt structures. A little later, in the village of Verechye, Gorodok district, after extinguishing the open burning of a company-owned residential building, the body of a man, born in 1959, was recovered from the rubble. It was established that the man, along with his wife, rented the accommodation from a local enterprise; at the time of the incident, his wife was in the district center. Another man, born in 1959, died in a fire in the village of Glinnoye, Dokshitsky district.-0-
