Four people drowned over the three-day weekend in the Vitebsk region, the Vitebsk regional organization of the Belarusian Voluntary Society for the Rescue of People on Water (OSVOD) informed a BELTA correspondent. In Vitebsk on 1 July, the body of a 52-year-old resident of the Liozno district was found. He presumably drowned on the same day while swimming sober. The drowning of the other three is linked to alcohol. Thus, in the Tolochin district, a 40-year-old man from Orsha and a 26-year-old resident of the Kobryn district of the Brest region became victims of water. Both were near reservoirs with large groups of friends, and their recreation was accompanied by alcohol consumption. A similar tragedy occurred in the Sharkovshchina district: a 37-year-old man, while intoxicated, was swimming across a pond near the village of Bildyugi, got entangled in silt, and drowned. In total, according to operational data, 11 people drowned in the Vitebsk region in June, including one young child. To prevent similar tragedies, OSVOD employees urge people to exercise caution when relaxing near reservoirs and not to consume alcohol. Parents should be particularly vigilant and under no circumstances leave children unattended, even for a short time.-0-
