On February 2, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Classes in schools have been suspended in four districts of the Vitebsk region due to severe frost, the education department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
By decisions of local authorities, educational classes have been suspended due to adverse weather conditions in all 22 schools of the Shumilino district, 5 schools of the Polotsk district, and in the primary classes of the Postavy and Beshenkovichi districts. It is planned that schoolchildren will return to classes next week, provided the temperature is favourable, the department noted.
The night from February 1 to February 2 was record-breakingly cold in the Vitebsk region. The air temperature dropped to 28-30 degrees Celsius. Frosty weather will persist in the coming days, with daytime temperatures expected to be 15-20 degrees below zero in the region, and at night the thermometer will drop to 23-28 degrees, and up to 30-32 degrees below zero in clear spells. The beginning of next week will be marked by a weakening of the frost and precipitation due to the influx of warmer and more humid air from Southern Europe, added Lyudmila Borodenok, leading engineer-forecaster of the Vitebsk Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. -0-
