"People should be communicated with properly, not shut out with officialese," said Valery Mitskevich, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, at a personal reception of citizens in Chashniki today. Although the reception of citizens was announced to end by 2 PM, it finished much later. Eighteen people, without prior appointment, came to the Deputy Head of the Administration with various issues: from housing that had been poorly repaired to, in their opinion, unlawful refusals to initiate criminal proceedings and the opening of a vehicle service station in the district. Everyone was able to talk about their problem. Some received a competent answer immediately, while other issues required more detailed examination and the involvement of other authorities for their resolution. All issues raised have been taken under the control of the Deputy Head of the Administration. In Valery Mitskevich's opinion, most of the problems could have been resolved without resorting to higher authorities if local officials and law enforcement agencies knew how to communicate with people. "Is it really that difficult to explain things properly to a person and give answers to all their questions? Sometimes it seems that the further one is from the capital, the busier an official is," he added. The third stage of monitoring the work of local authorities with the public is ongoing in the Vitebsk region. A working group from the Presidential Administration is working in Postavy and Gluboksky districts. Activists of the regional branch of the public association "Belaya Rus" have also decided to join this work; they will hold receptions in Ushachsky and Miorsky districts. -0-
