21 December, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Officials must be accountable for the promises they make to the public. This opinion was expressed to journalists by the President's Aide - Chief Inspector for the Vitebsk Region, Nikolai Domashkevich, who was conducting a personal reception of citizens at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. More than 20 people attended the reception today. A significant portion of the issues raised concerned delays in the renovation of residential buildings and the dishonesty of officials in fulfilling their commitments. For example, a resident of Vitebsk has been trying for several years to get her house renovated. According to Nikolai Domashkevich, such behaviour by civil servants and officials is unacceptable. "This indicates that they do not value themselves or the word they give to people. There must be a stringent demand for this," stressed the President's Aide, noting that the names of such officials should be mentioned in the media as a measure of public censure or they should be dismissed from their posts. "In general, the issue of renovating residential buildings in the Vitebsk region was 'slept through' 10-15 years ago, which is why it has become so acute now. Today, more attention must be paid to its resolution, and funding increased. At the same time, it should be understood that the region must earn this money, therefore, it is necessary to work more and approach the performance of duties responsibly," added Nikolai Domashkevich.-0-
