The determining factor for the population increase was migration growth, which amounted to 4,621 people in the first half of the year. Belarus's primary migration exchange is with CIS countries. In January-June, 7,728 people arrived in the republic from these countries, with 87.4% of them coming from Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Among those leaving Belarus, individuals departing for CIS countries are predominant. Their share was 68.9%, with 72.1% of them going to Russia.
The natural population decrease in January-June was 3,031 people, a reduction of 3,047 people (by half) compared to the same period in 2015. In the first half of the year, 58,266 children were born in the republic, which is 1,718 (3%) more than in the corresponding period of 2015. The number of deaths was 61,297 people, a decrease of 1,329 (2.1%) compared to the same period last year.
In the first half of the year, 26,644 marriages were registered in Belarus, and 16,459 divorces were recorded.
