This was announced today at a press conference by the head of the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk Region, Vladimir Shalukhin, BELTA correspondent reports. "It is planned that from the second half of the year, every fifth case in the region will be investigated within 15 days. This is a justified forecast, calculated taking into account the crime situation in the region," said Vladimir Shalukhin. He added that the work aimed at preventing red tape will also bring an effect in improving the efficiency of criminal case investigations. In total, over 4 months of the current year, the region's investigative units completed 2028 criminal cases. Of these, almost 1.7 thousand criminal cases were transferred to the prosecutor's offices for submission to court. 7.1 thousand criminal cases were initiated. 1.3 thousand decisions were made to refuse to initiate a criminal case and to terminate the check. 271 criminal cases were completed under accelerated proceedings. "The investigation of 75% of criminal cases is completed within the two-month period established by law. 16% of them are completed within 15 days. The most important thing in this work, along with the speed of investigation, is not to miss the quality of work," emphasized the head of the department. Serious attention is paid to work with citizens' appeals. In January-April, 347 appeals from citizens were received by the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk Region and its territorial units, of which 188, or 54.1% of the received number, were considered on the merits, including 47 considered by territorial units. 159 appeals were sent to other bodies for consideration on the merits in accordance with their competence. 40 citizens applied for personal appointments with the heads of the department. -0-
