On April 27, tactical special exercises were held in Lepel District to prepare the management bodies, forces and means of the Lepel District Unit of the Vitebsk Territorial Subsystem of the State System of Emergency Situations and Civil Defence for actions in case of collapse of dilapidated (emergency) houses, emergency buildings and structures. The exercises were attended by the commission for emergency situations of the district executive committee, units of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, and emergency services of the city and district.

According to the tactical plan, a fire was detected in a natural ecosystem by forestry workers, who immediately proceeded to extinguish the simulated fire. Simultaneously, they informed the rescue service about the emergency situation that had occurred.

Upon arrival at the fire site, forestry workers discovered that due to uncontrolled burning of dry vegetation, the fire had spread to an abandoned uninhabited house, inside which there was a simulated casualty. As a result of the fire, the roof of the house collapsed. The simulated emergency situation was successfully resolved through joint efforts.

Based on the results of the drills, an assessment was made of the realism of planning protective measures and the effectiveness of the work of the commission for emergency situations of the Lepel District Executive Committee and the district operational headquarters for managing emergency response.

During the response to these emergency situations, clear and coordinated interaction of all services and departments played the most important role. The personnel of the involved services acquired a wealth of important and useful knowledge and skills that will be useful in solving real tasks and will become an integral part of successful emergency response.
